Speaking at BIO 2015 in the US last week, former US Homeland Security’s head of cybercrimes, Mark Weatherford, as part of a larger panel on cybercrime, noted the increased threat to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
The panel discussed that private industry is increasingly facing cyber attacks that formerly only the military could have defended – and expected to face the threat alone.
In the article - ‘Ex-Homeland Security cyber chief warns of threats to pharma’ - Fiona Barry wrote: “The pharma industry must fight 'vendor indifference' so suppliers and services companies are not prey to cyber attacks that can lose drug companies hundreds of thousands of dollars in minutes, according to US Homeland Security’s former head of cybercrimes Mark Weatherford.”
The panel discussed defence plans and mitigation strategies as well as noting some examples of large-scale attacks.
