A new national initiative to accelerate vaccine and infectious disease innovation in Australia will officially launch on 17 November 2025, marking a significant milestone for the country’s translational health ecosystem.
The Biointelect Venturer, Australia’s national incubator for vaccine and infectious disease innovation, aims to transform early-stage research breakthroughs into viable health solutions with real-world public health impact.
Supported by $32.9 million in funding from the Australian Government under the 2024 BioMedTech Incubator Grant Opportunity of the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF), the program will support three cohorts of innovators between 2026 and 2029.
Through Biointelect Venturer, Australian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will have the opportunity to advance early vaccine and infectious disease discoveries, access tailored mentorship, and attract follow-on funding and investment.
>Each successful project will receive up to $5 million, allocated according to agreed milestones, along with structured support to de-risk innovation and accelerate the path from concept to commercial readiness.
“By combining funding, infrastructure, and expert guidance, Biointelect Venturer is designed to bridge the critical translation gap that often prevents promising research from reaching patients,” a spokesperson said. “The goal is to bring forward new health technologies that strengthen Australia’s infectious disease preparedness and response.”
Expressions of interest for the first cohort will open at 9:00 am (AEDT) on Monday, 17 November 2025, and close at 11:59 pm (AEDT) on Sunday, 19 December 2025.
The initiative reflects Biointelect’s long-standing commitment to building Australia’s translational and commercialisation capacity in vaccines and infectious diseases, aligning with national priorities for medical innovation and sovereign capability.
Stakeholders are encouraged to share details of the program through their networks, newsletters, and social channels to help reach potential applicants and innovators.
