AusBiotech and MTPConnect were thrilled to co-host a reception at the Australian Parliament House, welcoming delegates from the National Biotech and Medtech Development and Commercialisation Policy Summit.

The event strengthened relationships between Australia’s life sciences industry and policymakers, fostering dialogue about the future of biotechnology and medical technology in Australia.

Three Members of Parliament, including Dr Michelle Ananda-Rajah MP, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, Shadow Minister for Science and the Arts, and Dr Mike Freelander MP, addressed delegates, underscoring the critical role of the life sciences sector in shaping Australia’s health, economic growth, and global competitiveness.

The reception provided an engaging platform for industry, researchers, and innovators to connect with Members of Parliament and Senators.

We had broad-ranging political engagement from the Government, opposition, and crossbench, including the Hon Milton Dick MP, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Rob Mitchell MP, Senator Marielle Smith from the Australian Labor Party; the Hon Michelle Landry MP and Mr Aaron Violi MP from the Coalition; and Ms Zoe Daniels MP Independent.

A special thank you to Paul Anderson, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Orthocell, an AusBiotech member, for sharing Orthocell's incredible story of innovation. Paul spoke about the company's regenerative medicine and the journey of creating groundbreaking products that harness the body's natural ability to heal, restoring mobility and function.

The discussions and insights from this week's Summit will help provide a unified voice and a clear roadmap to government and industry stakeholders to accelerate the commercialisation of Australian innovations and position Australia as a global leader.

The outcomes will inform a joint Communique, Pre-Budget Submission, and White Paper outlining a roadmap for advancing Australia’s biotech and medtech industries.
