World-renowned IVF pioneer Prof Alan Trounson to headline AusBiotech 2015

Latest News

AusBiotech 2015 will feature a plenary address by world-leading stem cell scientist and IVF pioneer, Professor Alan Trounson, who first grabbed media attention as a member of the team delivering Australia’s first IVF baby in 1980.

Professor Trounson has recently returned to the institute he founded 24 years ago, now called the Hudson Institute of Medical Research at Monash University, after spending the last 6.5 years driving stem cell research and translation studies at the US$3 billion California Institute for Regenerative Medicine.

Professor Trounson's present research interests are in immune-cell therapies for cancer and infection. His Opening Plenary will present where we are today in regenerative medicine and therapies on the horizon.

Regenerative medicine will be a key theme of the AusBiotech conference this year (7 - 9 October 2015), which will also feature the inaugural Regenerative Medicine Symposium 8 October, running concurrently with the conference program.

Regenerative medicine is a game-changing area of medicine with the potential to fully heal damaged tissues and organs, offering solutions and hope for people who have conditions that today are beyond repair.

Advances in developmental and cell biology, immunology, and other fields have unlocked new opportunities to refine existing regenerative therapies and develop novel ones. The day’s discussions about exciting possible outcomes will conclude with a valuable session ‘Managing community expectation’ by Prof Alan Petersen from the School of Social Sciences, Monash University.
