Prime Minister Scott Morrison has reappointed Greg Hunt health minister and Karen Andrews as the new minister for industry, science and technology.

Mr Hunt resigned from the portfolio during last week's leadership turmoil. He had been in the portfolio since early 2017 and focussed significant energy on restoring the Coalition government's health credentials.

Mathias Cormann remains in finance and Simon Birmingham is the new trade minister

Queensland MP Karen Andrews was previously the assistant minister for vocational education and skills. Ms Andrews served as the parliamentary secretary to the minister for industry and science from late 2014 to September 2015.

"I look forward to drawing on my background as a mechanical engineer to carry out my new ministerial role," said Ms Andrews in a statement.

Former industry minister Senator Michaelia Cash was moved to the small and family business, skills and vocational education portfolio.

Former health minister Sussan Ley has also returned to the ministry as the assistant minister for  regional development and territories.
