Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will personally Chair a new innovation and science Cabinet sub-committee.
Announced as part of the Government's National Innovation and Sciences Agenda, the new group will sit alongside other key committees responsible for formulating the Budget and overseeing national security.
The creation of a sub-committee focussed on innovation and science represents a significant shift given the Abbott Government did not even include a science minister.
The Government also announced the creation of an interdepartmental committee to coordinate implementation of the measures that cover nine different portfolios.
