Confirmation Health Minister Sussan Ley will take personal responsibility for implementation of changes to the regulation of medicines and medical devices.
The 'charter letters' splitting responsibilities between the three health portfolio ministers has been finalised with Minister Ley taking on the TGA.
Responsibility for the TGA has traditionally sat with a junior portfolio minister. Its elevation comes shortly after Minister Ley announced government's response to the TGA review. Key changes include an expedited review process for breakthrough medicines, which aligns with the minister's political focus on timely access.
Responsibilities for health assistant ministers, Ken Wyatt and Dr David Gillespie, have also being finalised.
Dr Gillespie takes responsibility for rural health, tobacco and food. Mr Wyatt has taken responsibility for indigenous health and some key agencies, including the National Blood Authority and the Organ and Tissue Authority.
