AusMedtech kicks off in Melbourne tomorrow with the Digital Health Public Forum and a briefing from the Victorian Government.
The inaugural AusMedtech Digital Health Public Forum will bring together the medtech industry with innovators, investors and others interested in digital health technologies.
The program will include a keynote presentation from Dr James Dromey, Head of Commercialisation at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute.
The subject of his keynote is 'Beyond the hype - Digital health and the transformation of health care'.
Companies presenting at the forum include Sonoa Health, Monash Institute for Medical Engineering, ResApp Diagnostics, Alive Technologies and Planet Innovation.
It will also feature a panel discussion with Dr Dromey, Grant Bennett of Brandwood Biomedical, Professor Frada Burstein from Monash University, Mohinder Jaimangal from Curve Tomorrow and Bruce Satchwell, CEO of Alive Technologies.
The panel will be followed by a Victorian Government briefing, with presentations from key government bodies on the state's policy directions, capability and infrastructure in relation to medical technology.
Michaella Richards, the Director of Innovation and Technology Research and Programs at that Department of State Development, Business and Innovation, will start the briefing with a presentation on future policy directions.
That will be followed by presentations on advanced manufacturing skills, the state's medical device infrastructure and capability, and Charles Lindall from the CSIRO will present on its biomaterials capability.
AusMedtech will get underway following the Digital Health Public Forum, to be officially opened by AusBiotech CEO Dr Anna Lavelle and Adem Somyurek, the Victorian Minister for Small Business, Innovation and Trade.
The first plenary will feature an address from Robert Laird, Global Vice President of R&D, Ethicon Energy, Johnson & Johnson, on the new reality of medical device innovation.
Other sessions on day one will focus on biomedical manufacturing, advanced limb reconstruction, regulation harmonisation, achieving alignment of corporate strategy, IP strategy and R&D planning, and leveraging alliances.
