Emyria (ASX:EMD) has secured expanded funding support from Medibank Private for patients accessing its treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) programs, marking a significant step in the company’s national growth strategy.
Under the new agreement, eligible Medibank customers will be able to receive insurer-funded treatment at Emyria’s first East Coast clinic in Brisbane, operated in partnership with Avive Health. The arrangement extends a multi-year funding agreement that already supports programs in Western Australia, expanding access to coordinated, psychiatrist-led trauma care for patients with complex mental health needs.
The Brisbane clinic is expected to open before the end of 2025, following fit-out and regulatory preparations. Similar programs in Perth typically involve care valued between $20,000 and $30,000 per patient, highlighting the clinical depth and structured nature of each treatment plan.
This expansion comes as Australia faces a growing mental health burden, with nearly half the population expected to experience a mental health condition during their lifetime. TRD and PTSD are among the most severe and persistent disorders, often requiring multidisciplinary care that many patients cannot access through the public system or afford privately. By integrating hospital-based programs with insurer funding, Emyria and Medibank aim to reduce these financial and structural barriers.
Emyria’s Empax Centres combine psychotherapy-led care, clinical oversight and robust data collection within licensed hospital settings. This model generates longitudinal clinical data to optimise treatment protocols and demonstrate outcomes, supporting broader health-system innovation. By partnering with major insurers, Emyria is demonstrating that evidence-based mental health programs can be delivered sustainably and at scale.
Executive Chairman Greg Hutchinson said the Brisbane expansion strengthens the company’s national footprint and reinforces the scalability of its model. “We’re pleased to extend our agreement with Medibank and bring our insurer-funded Empax programs to Queensland. This represents an important step forward for patients, clinicians, and the broader health system,” Hutchinson said.
“Our goal has always been to make world-class, evidence-based mental health care accessible to every Australian who needs it. By integrating insurer funding into high-quality hospital programs, we’re significantly reducing financial barriers that have historically limited access to comprehensive trauma and mood disorder treatments.”
