Perth-based medical technology company Proteomics International has begun selling two of its diagnostic blood tests directly to patients in Western Australia and the Northern Territory, marking the first real-world rollout of its Promarker portfolio under a new national distribution partnership with pathology giant Healius.
The controlled release covers Promarker D, a test that assesses a patient's risk of developing diabetic kidney disease up to four years before symptoms appear, and Promarker Eso, which helps rule out oesophageal cancer in patients suffering chronic reflux. Both tests will be available on a private-pay basis, priced at $495 for Promarker D and $997 for Promarker Eso.
The launch follows an announcement in July that Healius was appointed Proteomics International's exclusive Australian pathology distribution partner for the Promarker range. That agreement gives the company access to Healius' network of roughly 1900 collection centres nationwide, sparing it the cost and complexity of building its own specimen collection infrastructure. Under the arrangement, Proteomics International will continue to handle laboratory testing, clinical reporting, scientific support and regulatory compliance, while Healius manages specimen collection and delivers the tests to primary care doctors and specialists.
Company executives are treating the WA and NT release as a testing ground for the bigger national launch still to come. "We have made good progress since signing our national distribution agreement with Healius," said CEO and Managing Director David Morris. "Promarker D and Promarker Eso are ready for a controlled market release, with broader national commercial launch expected to commence during Q2 FY27."
Morris also flagged parallel work on a third test in the pipeline. "Alongside the Healius rollout, we continue to progress reimbursement strategies and advance Promarker Endo assay refinement and validation," he said. "These activities remain important to the broader commercial development of the Promarker portfolio, and our focus remains on disciplined execution as we progress the commercialisation of the portfolio."
Promarker Endo is being developed to help diagnose endometriosis, though the company says the next clinical milestone still depends on the validation program being completed successfully.
