Biotech headed to the Hill for AusBiotech’s Policy Forum

Parliament House Canberra hosted biotech leaders for a day of discussions and presentations with the government as AusBiotech’s annual Policy Forum headed to the Hill.

With financial capital the ‘lifeblood’ of the biotech industry, the 2023 CEO delegation focused engagement on key topics and initiatives for capital attraction, diving into opportunities outlined in the Biotechnology Blueprint

The Hon. Ed Husic (MP), Minister for Industry and Science, along with representatives from the Department of Health and Aged Care, the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, and the Treasury, joined industry leaders to work collaboratively to enhance our sector and to learn how it is supporting the bioeconomy. Their active engagement is a continued demonstration of the Government’s resolve to further strengthen the growing life sciences industry.

The AusBiotech CEO Policy Forum provides an opportunity for biotech leaders to understand the government's vision and goals, and for the government to get deeper insights into the importance of life sciences to the economy and the benefits and returns it brings to Australia and Australians.

The Forum is also a powerful opportunity to bring to life the life science sector’s social and economic contributions to Australia, and facilitate the increased communication and collaboration between industry and government.

Key policies and topics discussed included quantum and what it means to the biotech industry; policy levers and initiatives to attract greater private investment; and government investment into the biotech industry. It also included a CEO workshop discussion on key proactive policy initiatives to support industry-driven medical research that will help shape AusBiotech’s policy and advocacy work into the future.

AusBiotech’s CEO Policy Forum is a fundamental element in our strategy to bring policy makers and industry together, to create dialogue and discussion and to create the right environment for the life sciences industry to realise its economic and social potential.
