Biosimilars Forum moving closer

Policy

Some companies will take the first steps later this week towards formation of an Australian Biosimilars Forum.

An initial meeting of companies involved in the development and manufacture of biosimilars could lead to the official formation of an Australian version of the US Biosimilars Forum.

The US-based version of the Forum was established in May, with the goal of providing evidence-based information to educate and advocate for public policies and practices that encourage access, awareness, and adoption of biosimilars.

Its members include many well-known Australian-based companies, such as Amgen, Boehringer Ingelheim, Hospira, Merck Serono, Pfizer, Sandoz (a Novartis company), and Teva.

The identity of companies leading the discussion on the potential formation of an Australian version of the forum remains unclear.

However, it is understood that current member companies of AusBiotech and the Generic Medicines Industry Association (GMiA) are involved.
