Benitec Biopharma (ASX:BLT) has announced the appointment of Edward Smith to its board of directors.
Benitec is a development-stage Australian biotechnology company focused on the advancement of novel genetic medicines.
It said Mr Smith brings more than 20 years of experience in executive finance and operations leadership in the biotechnology to the board. He currently serves as the chief financial officer (CFO) of Marinus Pharmaceuticals, a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercialising innovative therapeutics to treat patients suffering from rare seizure disorders.
Mr Smith previously served as the CFO of PolyMedix and the executive director of finance at InKine Pharmaceutical Company.
“Edward’s extensive background in finance and operations in the biotherapeutics space will make him an exceptional contributor to the Board. We are excited to welcome him as a director,” said Dr Jerel Banks, executive chairman and CEO of Benitec Biopharma.
