Greens Deputy Leader and science and research spokesperson Adam Bandt welcomed support in Senate for the Greens call for the government to protect science and research funding in the Budget.
The Greens have called on on the government to increase science and research funding, put ongoing funding on a more certain footing and reverse the decision to cut the Future Fellowships program, which supports mid-career researchers.
The Greens have also been vocal opponents of the Government's recent deal with the Palmer United Party to cap claims under the R&D Tax Incentive, and apply it retrospectively.
“...it seems the government is pressing ahead with cuts to the Future Fellowships program. This comes on top of cuts to the CSIRO and government support for R&D plummeting to a 30-year low,” said Mr Bandt.
“The Prime Minister needs to listen to the Senate and change direction in the Budget,” he said.
