AusBiotech and Life Sciences Queensland (LSQ), the leading voice for Queensland’s biotechnology and health innovation sector, have signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen collaboration and advance Australia’s life sciences industry.
The organisations said the agreement represents a strategic commitment to support the growth and resilience of Australia’s life sciences ecosystem. The MOU outlines a framework for cooperation, emphasising member engagement, knowledge exchange, and a unified approach to sector advocacy.
AusBiotech chair Dr James Campbell said, “We look forward to deepening our collaboration with LSQ and building synergies that amplify our shared strengths. Now is the time to unite our voices, drawing on the remarkable innovation and talent across states like Queensland. Queensland is a thriving hub for cutting-edge developments in biotechnology.
"Together, we can create a more connected and collaborative sector.”
AusBiotech CEO Rebekah Cassidy said, “We are excited to announce this Memorandum of Understanding between AusBiotech and LSQ. It marks a significant step forward in uniting our efforts to drive growth and strengthen the life sciences ecosystem across Australia.
"By working together, we can leverage our combined strengths to advance research, support our members, and ultimately improve health outcomes for all Australians. Both of our organisations recognise the growing necessity to retain and nurture homegrown research, biotechnology, and medtech to protect against the evolving challenges of our global environment. Whether it’s climate change, future pandemic preparedness, pressures on supply chains and aging populations, we will be better prepared to support and grow the sector for the benefit of Australians if we work together.
"I am so pleased we could sign this MOU at our AusBiotech Conference. I thank LSQ for their ongoing partnership and collaboration.”
LSQ board chair Professor Trent Munro said, “We welcome the opportunity to work more closely with AusBiotech to ensure that Queensland’s unique perspectives and opportunities are embedded into the national conversation about Australia’s biotechnology and medtech ecosystem.
“We look forward to working more closely with AusBiotech and forging a 'Team Australia' approach on the international stage.”
Dr Ryan Parlett, acting CEO of LSQ, added, “It’s an exciting time for the biotechnology sector both nationally and in Queensland, with new companies setting up, and existing companies establishing a presence here, creating skilled jobs and economic return for the state.
“We are delighted to sign this MOU and look forward to strengthening our partnership and collaboration with AusBiotech.”
