AusBiotech has formalised a new partnership with BioNSW, a rapidly growing not-for-profit organisation dedicated to harnessing the full potential of the New South Wales Life Sciences sector.

AusBiotech said the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) represents a significant step forward in promoting a connected and thriving biotechnology ecosystem across NSW. It said the partnership underscores a shared commitment to catalysing innovation, investment, and skills development across the sector.

AusBiotech CEO Rebekah Cassidy said, “I couldn’t be more pleased to sign this MOU with BioNSW. It reflects our shared commitment to growing Australia’s life sciences capabilities and reinforces AusBiotech’s commitment to fostering a connected biotechnology sector. I look forward to working with the BioNSW team to showcase the state’s strengths and offerings.”

“My consistent message has been that, as the leading national advocate, we have a responsibility to collaborate and deepen our relationships with our partners in each of the states, including New South Wales. Through our own thriving membership, we know that NSW's biotech and medtech community is exciting and strong. Coordinating locally and nationally to foster joint advocacy is a critical enabler for the future of our sector. Unifying the sector's voice must be one of our most critical, shared priorities.”

Brad Walsh, the acting chair and co-founder of BioNSW, added, “As Acting Chair and Co-Founder of BioNSW, I’m delighted to see the formalisation of this partnership with AusBiotech, a key step forward in strengthening the biotechnology ecosystem across New South Wales and beyond.

“The NSW LifeSciences Sector is significant in size and importance with the largest number of Biotech companies amongst the states – with the sector having doubled in size over the last 7 years.

“BioNSW is committed to amplifying the voice of our local Life Sciences organisations across all regions of the State, ensuring that the unique needs and opportunities of NSW’s Life Sciences community are well-represented at every level. This partnership with the national body AusBiotech underscores our role as a vital advocate, connecting businesses, fostering innovation, and promoting growth. “By working together with AusBiotech, BioNSW is excited to help drive the development of a thriving, connected biotechnology sector in NSW, positioning the state as a leader in the global bio-economy.”
