Atmo Biosciences has been named a winner in Fast Company’s 2026 World Changing Ideas Awards, an annual program that recognises innovations delivering measurable impact across industries.
Atmo’s FDA-cleared ingestible capsule earned recognition for its novel gas-sensing technology, which provides gastroenterologists with objective, validated data to diagnose gastrointestinal dysmotility.
The capsule measures whole- and regional-gut transit times to aid in diagnosing motility disorders and provides clinicians and researchers with actionable insights into gastrointestinal dysfunction.
The release highlights the growing clinical need as GLP-1s used for weight loss lead to gastrointestinal complications in many patients, with studies cited showing 40 to 70 per cent of users experiencing GI side effects and about 65 per cent discontinuing treatment within 12 months.
Fast Company evaluated more than 1,500 entries and selected 191 projects across 14 categories based on impact, sustainability, design, creativity, scalability, and societal benefit.
Atmo CEO Mal Hebblewhite said, “We are delighted with this Award that recognises Atmo in advancing the diagnosis and treatment of functional GI disorders, thereby making a positive contribution for patients and clinicians.”
Fast Company editor in chief Brendan Vaughan said, “The World Changing Ideas Awards are more than inspiration—they’re a measure of real-world impact. This year’s honorees are turning bold ideas into tangible solutions and addressing urgent global challenges with creativity and rigour.”
