Assessors needed for industry PhD program

AusBiotech

The National Industry PhD Program is seeking suitably qualified individuals interested in being industry-based assessors.

The Australian Government is investing $296 million to “build a bedrock of research talent skilled in university–industry collaboration across the sector under the Increase Workforce Mobility initiative. This includes funding to establish the National Industry PhD Program to support the Government’s commitment to add 1,800 Industry PhDs over 10 years.”

Assessors will be asked to review applications in or close to their qualifications and areas of interest. The review will be about the academic and industrial experience of the team supervising the PhD student and their relevant standing in the field of research. This assessment will be conducted alongside university-based specialists.

The National Industry PhD Program is a doctoral program that will support PhD candidates to undertake industry-focused research projects and develop the knowledge and skills to better translate university research into commercialisation outcomes. It will also give PhD candidates an opportunity to gain practical and research experience in both industry and university settings.

The Program consists of two streams:

  • Industry Linked PhD stream: This stream is for outstanding PhD candidates to undertake research projects co-designed by university and industry, with opportunities to be embedded in an industry setting and participate in a 12-week training program; and,
  • Industry Researcher PhD stream: This stream is for highly capable industry professionals who are supported by their employers to undertake PhD projects in partnership with a university, while retaining industry employment and salary benefits.

The initial assessment period is scheduled for late April-May 2023, with the Assessment Committee Meeting on Monday 15 May. There will be two further rounds in 2023. Remuneration will be provided for assisting with the assessments.

For people interested in participating, please provide your name, email address, contact number and expertise (brief bio).
