Another new industry minister as incumbent resigns

Australia has another new industry minister following the resignation of Christian Porter after just six months in the portfolio.

Mr Porter resigned following the revelation legal fees related to his defamation claim against the ABC were paid by the unidentified contributors to a blind trust.

Prime minister Scott Morrison announced energy and emissions reduction minister Angus Taylor will take responsibility for the industry portfolio on an interim basis.

The federal government's third industry minister in 2020 comes as it maintains a policy focus on encouraging industry investment in manufacturing and clinical trials.
